French renewable energy producer Neoen has signed a 10-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Australian electricity retailer Flow Power for 40 MW of energy from its Goyder South Stage 1 wind farm in South Australia.
Goyder South Stage 1 is the first stage of Neoen’s flagship project known as Goyder Renewables Zone, which has development approval for a total of 1200 MW of wind generation, 600 MW of solar generation and 900 MW of battery storage capacity.
Goyder Renewables Zone is by far the largest renewable project in South Australia. Its Goyder South Stage 1 includes 75 wind turbines with a total generation capacity of 412 MW and is currently under construction. The operation is scheduled in 2024.
Under the agreement, Flow Power will buy near 10% of the generation capacity of the Goyder South Stage 1 wind farm to provide affordable local clean energy to commercial and industrial electricity consumers. The PPA also brings Flow Power’s total renewable energy portfolio to 367 MW.
This is Goyder South Stage 1’s second off-take agreement, which complements the first 14-year PPA with the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) Government announced in 2020.
Louis de Sambucy, Neoen Australia’s managing director said, “We are delighted to sign our first PPA with Flow Power, who deliver competitively priced renewable energy and emissions reductions to a wide range of Australian businesses. Goyder South is not only Neoen’s most competitive project but also unlocks excellent regional economic and local community outcomes.”
The project will bring positive impact to the local community and environment. Goyder South Stage 1 will create more than 400 jobs and ongoing economic advantages to the local community and Traditional Owners, the Ngadjuri.
