Vietnam’s northern province of Quang Ninh is seeing a major surge in wind energy momentum.
The government gave the green light to the province’s offshore wind project, the Quang Ninh 4 Wind Power Plant, on May 11. This follows the official groundbreaking of Quang Ninh 1 late last month—one of the North’s pioneering large-scale wind farms. Both projects are expected to significantly enhance the country’s renewable electricity supply.
How large is Quang Ninh’s first offshore wind project?
At a recent meeting, the Standing Board of the Party Committee of Quang Ninh approved the province’s first offshore wind development. The project is located in nearshore waters of the Co To special zone, with an installed capacity of 50 MW. Quang Ninh 4 is currently the most advanced among five planned offshore wind projects in the province.
Unlock the full article to explore three key takeaways:
- Quang Ninh's first offshore wind project (50MW) received in-principle government approval on May 11—the fastest-moving of five planned offshore projects.
- Quang Ninh 1 wind power plant broke ground on April 23, targeting 600 million kWh annually and commercial operations by 2028.
- Quang Ninh holds an estimated 16,000MW wind potential; the province targets 4,700MW of wind capacity by 2035.
