Germany added 803 MW of solar, wind in August

Germany commissioned 561.35 MW of solar power plants and a 152.11 MW of onshore wind farms in August, according to the latest figures from the Federal Network Agency.

The country also linked the first offshore wind turbine in a while, adding 90 MW of offshore wind capacity to the grid.

While new solar power installations in August surpassed the level of previous month, the amount was below the year's record high of 733.36 MW deployed in March.

Of the bulk of the new solar capacity, 420.63 MW came from facilities connected to the grid outside of EEG (German Renewable Energy Sources Act) tenders, while 7.8 MW was contributed by ground-mounted systems.

The onshore wind energy deployment in Germany slowed down again in August for the third consecutive month, installing only 152.11 MW of new capacity.

Biomass-fired power plants with a combined capacity of 1.69 MW went online in the month under review, bringing this year's total amount of new installations to 17.73 MW.
