A record-breaking level of green energy was generated in the UK in 2022, according to new analysis from Imperial College London for Drax Electric Insights.
The researchers found that 40% of the UK’s electricity came from solar, wind, biomass and hydropower last year, up from 35% the previous year.
Over the past decade, renewable energy has more than quadrupled, with the share of renewables increasing dramatically from 8% in 2012.
However, despite the dramatic growth in the renewables sector, the unprecedentedly high cost of gas meant that power prices also hit a new all-time high.
