German supermarkets must do more to drive food system sustainability, report finds

The largest German supermarket chains have increased their efforts to become more sustainable, but still don’t do justice to their central role in the transformation of the food system, according to a report commissioned by the country’s environment agency (UBA). “Companies could better use their influence and ability to manoeuvre to steer the food system towards sustainability,” the UBA said.
