Amendments to Taiwan’s three major solar regulations, which took effect at the end of 2025, tightened environmental review requirements and narrowed the scope of eligible development areas. The changes have pushed the solar sector into a period of restructuring, with foreign investors becoming more cautious and some developers slowing project development.

Lightsource bp, the renewable energy development arm of BP, holds a different view. The company told RECCESSARY that while the regulatory revisions have created short term challenges, they have also helped deflate market excesses. The company said the changes are contributing to agrivoltaics and fishery solar projects, and are guiding the market toward more rational and professional operations.
