Taiwanese electronics manufacturer Foxconn is expanding its sustainability strategy with a new suite of AI-enabled nature-based solutions, working with universities in Taiwan and Vietnam to accelerate coastal protection, marine restoration, and soil-carbon sequestration. At Hon Hai Tech Day 2025 on Nov. 21, experts outlined pilot sites, timelines and expected climate benefits of these initiatives.
Mangrove restoration in Vietnam aims to unlock blue carbon credits
Foxconn is launching a mangrove restoration program in northern Vietnam in partnership with Hanoi University of Sciences. Scheduled to begin next year, the three-year project will serve as a nature-based solution for coastal protection and blue carbon development in one of the country’s most disaster-prone regions.
The program’s top priority is to strengthen coastal defenses and reduce typhoon damage for vulnerable communities. It also aligns with clients’ growing emphasis on “water compensation,” the principle that companies using significant local water resources should offset their impact through ecological restoration, said Ron Horng (洪榮聰), Vice President of Foxconn’s Central Environment Division.
