Japanese renewable energy developer Shizen Energy announced on Dec. 15 that it has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with U.S. technology giant Google to develop a 29.9 MW solar photovoltaic project in Malaysia. The project marks Shizen Energy’s first utility-scale solar development in the country, paving the way for a broader expansion of its renewable energy footprint across Southeast Asia.
The rapid growth of artificial intelligence (AI) data centers is accelerating Malaysia’s semiconductor industry into a new phase of expansion. Experts note that reducing Scope 2 emissions from purchased electricity is becoming a top priority for corporates, particularly in markets where national grids remain heavily reliant on fossil fuels.
