Taiwan’s rooftop solar mandate nears launch amid safety, cost, housing price concerns

The mandatory rooftop solar requirement for large buildings in Taiwan will take effect this August. Authorities estimate the measure could add around 660 MW of installed capacity each year, equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of roughly 200,000 households. 

The policy, however, has drawn divided views. To examine the industrial and practical challenges it may face, RECCESSARY spoke with solar developers, green building specialists and civil engineering scholars to capture frontline perspectives ahead of its implementation.
