The World Bank Group partnered with the Johor state government and Ditrolic Energy on Nov. 24 to develop the Southern Johor Renewable Energy Corridor (SJREC), a USD 6 billion initiative to power Johor’s industrial growth and data center expansion with clean electricity and support the ASEAN Power Grid (APG) through future cross-border electricity trade.
To meet rapidly growing demand from multinational and local industries, the first phase of SJREC will deliver up to 4GWp of solar capacity and 5.12GWh of energy storage across a 10,000-acre site. “This project confirms Johor’s readiness to serve as a primary renewable energy hub for the ASEAN Power Grid,” said Datuk Ramlee A Rahman, president and group chief executive of Permodalan Darul Ta’zim (PDT), the Johor government’s strategic investment arm.
