The Philippine government’s decision to bring biomass back into its Green Energy Auction Program (GEAP) has raised expectations across the industry.
A local industry group recently urged the government to factor feedstock and logistics costs into auction pricing to make projects more bankable, arguing that biomass provides stable and dispatchable renewable power and therefore requires a different pricing mechanism from wind and solar.
What will determine whether biomass projects take off?
Ina Guillermo, President of the Biomass Renewable Energy Alliance of the Philippines, discussed the state of the country’s biomass sector at the Biogas, Biomass, and Bioenergy & Biofuels Asia Summit 2026 in Manila on Sep. 17.
Unlock the full article to explore three key takeaways:
- The Philippines' first GEAP round in 2022 drew bids for just 3.4 MW in the biomass sector.
- The 2025 biomass feed-in tariff stood at PHP 8.1259/kWh (about USD 0.13).
- Industry groups want fuel-cost adjustments built into auction pricing.
